Follow Up

Congratulations on your decision to trust Christ Jesus with your life! You will find that He provides love and adventure at every turn as you follow Him. One of the first things He instructs you to do is to be baptized as a physical symbol of your decision to trust and obey Him.
To baptize means “to dip” or “to immerse.” Churches today baptize in several different ways, but in the Bible people were baptized by being immersed in a river or lake. It is a picture of being like Christ. He died to Himself and His own desires in order to obey God. This led Him to the cross, but it also led to His resurrection from the dead three days later. In the same way, baptism is a picture of dying to sin and self and of God raising us up to a new life.
To celebrate your decision and in obedience to God’s command, we have scheduled a time when you can be baptized in the river too. On Sunday, October 4, we are gathering by Lynches River for a worship service and baptism. Our host is Coward Baptist Church, and they have invited us to join them for an outdoor meeting at 11:00 a.m. You don’t have to dress up, but you might want to wear something in a dark color to be baptized in. They also will provide a place where you can change out of your wet clothes, so be sure to bring a towel and something dry to put on.
Directions: If you start from Florence, begin at the Kangaroo on the corner of Irby St. and 3rd Loop Rd. Go south on Irby St. toward Lake City for 5.9 miles. You will come to a traffic light in Effingham. HUBs Grill will be on your right (bright blue store). Turn right onto Hwy. 301 (Olanta Hwy.), then go approximately 8.6 miles to the place of baptism, which is on the right. There will be a cemetery on the right just before you reach the place of baptism. If you cross Lynches River you have gone too far.
OR Take I-95 south from Florence to Exit #150 (Sardis). Turn left onto Hwy. 403. Continue until you reach a yield sign. Turn left onto Creek Rd. and go approximately 6.8 miles to a stop sign. Turn right onto Hwy. 301 (Olanta Hwy.). Then go about .5 miles to the place of baptism, which is on the right. There will be a cemetery on the right just before you reach the place of baptism. If you cross Lynches River you have gone too far.
